Fees and Funding
Fees and Funding Overview
You can find full information about course fees and possible sources of funding on the Postgraduate Admissions website.
The University maintains the Postgraduate Funding Search database of awards offered by Colleges and other sources to prospective students.
Please note: There are firm deadlines for applications to be considered for funding which are also available on the Postgraduate Study website..
Part-time applicants from outside the UK should note that visa restrictions may apply, and that not all sources of funding are available to part-time students. It is the responsibility of the student to find out this information.
ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)
World-Class Social Science Funding
World-Class Social Science Funding
The Centre of Development Studies is a proud participant in the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership at the University of Cambridge. These studentships offer a premier training programme for those interested in how societies function and address global challenges. A DTP studentship will give you a world-class training programme, with access to leading international scholars both at Cambridge and other DTPs, and a vibrant community of fellow social scientists.
Eligibility and Automatic Consideration
We automatically consider applicants for ESRC funding if they meet the following criteria:
- Application: You must tick the ‘Required Funding’ box on your University Application Form.
- Requirements: You must comply with specific ‘fee status’ and ‘residency’ regulations.
Detailed information on these criteria can be found on the official CAM DTP website.
Selection and Nomination Process
The Centre can nominate a maximum of four applicants annually, selected from both the MPhil and PhD programmes. Our selection committee scores applications based on:
- Academic merit
- Professional and academic references
- Research potential
Candidates who achieve the highest scores will be invited to complete an additional funding form, which will be sent directly to them by the PhD Administrator (admin@devstudies.cam.ac.uk).
Please do bear in mind that, should you be successful, this grant will require strict termly progress throughout the PhD programme, in order to demonstrate the student's continued eligibility to the funds.
