Dr. Yunan Xu, in collaboration with Chunyu Wang, Jingzhong Ye, Sai Sam Kham, Doi Ra, Jennifer C. Franco, and Saturnino M. Borras Jr., has published a new article titled "Migrant Labour Flows and Interconnected Agrarian Transformations in Southern China" in Agriculture and Human Values.
The study examines how two key land-related labour flows—rural-to-urban migration and cross-border migration from Myanmar to China—shape agrarian transformation in the China-Myanmar borderlands. It argues that social classes and groups across both countries are interconnected through land, wage work, and capital accumulation, with their productive and social reproductive tasks deeply intertwined. To better understand agrarian transformation in such settings, the authors advocate for an interconnected approach.
