Biography:

Mateus L. Labrunie is a third year PhD candidate in the Centre of Development Studies, University of Cambridge, where he is the recipient of a Cambridge Trust International Scholarship, working under the supervision of Dr Ha-Joon Chang. His doctoral research focuses on the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the challenges and opportunities it poses for industrial policy in developing countries. His investigation involves both the historical analysis of economic development experiences during previous Industrial Revolutions, and the exploratory study of the absorption, diffusion, and development of 4IR technologies in Brazil. His broad research interests include: industrial and innovation policies, political economy, economic history, Latin American economic development, Brazilian economic development, technological catching-up, technology transfer, co-evolution of technology and institutions.
