Centre of Development Studies Fieldwork Fund

The Centre itself also runs a small scheme to help its students whilst on fieldwork trip. This help is only available to PhD students registered with the Centre of Development Studies. You can claim up to £500 pounds. This is done on a refund basis only and you will need to provide valid receipts to support your claim. You can only claim once during your time as a student at the Centre. The procedure consists of two steps:

1- fill in the Fielwork application form (available under Quick Links) and return it to the administrator Prudence Golding-Fuller ( for approval

2-fill in the refund form (available under Quick Links) and attach all your receipts and return it to the same administrator.

You should  then receive a cheque within a few weeks.

For queries concerning this small scheme which is run by the Centre, please contact the PhD administrator Prudence Golding-Fuller (

We are delighted and proud to see that the Centre has gone from no.8 (2015) to no.6 (2016) to no.4 (2017) in the field of Development Studies in the QS Survey. This would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work from everyone within the Centre.

Congratulations to PhD student Nungari Mwangi who was awarded the 2016 Andrew E Rice Award from the Society for International development!

Message from the director: You will be pleased to know that we have moved up from 8 in 2015 to 6 this year in the QS world ranking for Development Studies. This is a remarkable result and a great tribute to the tremendous efforts of the whole team of teachers and administrators. It's a fantastic result! Professor Peter Nolan
